This color-coded bar and chart system allows for faster and easier weight changes that will not slow your workout down. The bars correlate to a chart on top of the dumbbell to help the user determine the dumbbell weight. The adjustable weights are changed using an easy-to-use selector pin, very much like changing resistance on gym weight machines. Color-coded bars are on the sides of the dumbbell. Plus, it replaces multiple pairs of traditional dumbbell weights at a fraction of the space. Powerblock Adjustable Dumbbells are an affordable, compact dumbbell set solution for home users that can fit under most beds for storage. Plus, we offer expansion kits to take each Powerblock Dumbbell to 70 or 90 lbs as your fitness needs develop. You could probably use the handles interchangeably, but you can’t add to the PT plate set as there’s no rung space for the additional plates. The Powerblock Elite EXP Adjustable Dumbbells range from 2.5 lbs to 50 lbs in 2.5 lb increments. The personal trainer set, (being 5 lb plates), uses all the rung space on the handle from top to bottom. On the personal trainer set, there is no room for those additional rungs.

The expansion sets would add additional rungs for the extra plates. The 4 rungs would be 20 lbs on the personal trainer set. On the personal trainer set, all rung slots are used, from top to bottom. So if you look at the base set of elite, there are 4 rungs, equaling 40 lbs, (the handle is 5 and the expansion pods are 5 lb adding 10 lbs for a total of 50lbs). Elites, and most likely all the other “expandable” sets are 10 lbs, 2 plates, welded together on each end.Įach selection “rung” on the side of the personal trainer is then 5 lbs and 10 for the elite. Single plates on either end of the handle. If you look at pictures of the personal trainer plates, they are in 5 lb increments. The issue is not the handle, which is most likely the same, but the weights, or plates. It took a little of comparing, but I finally found the answer. Especially since the elite looks identical.

I’ve had the same “why not” question when it comes to expanding the personal trainer set.
